RICHES Internship Blog Post #3

This week we had our weekly RICHES meeting with all of the other staff members on Monday. We primarily discussed everything that had been completed in between the last meeting and the meeting we had Monday. We also discussed what we would be hoping to get accomplished for the week. This week I also picked my second piece of metadata. I had a little bit of a hard time deciding what to do for my second piece of metadata. I ended up settling on a sort of condolence letter written to the former manager of Weeki Wachee Springs, who had decided to resign. Most of the metadata we are creating is on photos, which makes it a little bit more difficult and often takes a lot more time to create the metadata than it took me during my previous internship. However, this is giving me a great skillset and the ability to work with many more different kinds of sources that need metadata. Personally, I love working with letters and photos for traditional history research because in a way lette

This week, at my internship with RICHES, I finished up my first piece of metadata early on in the week. I ran into a technical issue that we had to address at our meeting on Monday. This issue was that the security certificate had expired and I was unable to access the RICHES website to finish up the last few cells of the metadata on the spread sheet until I was able to access the website again. When I had submitted my metadata, I was a bit nervous since I was not entirely confident since the metadata is much more in-depth at RICHES than I have had with my previous experience with metadata. I am extremely happy though that the level of metadata is more complex at RICHES. It gives me an extremely valuable opportunity to learn about the different kinds of metadata requirements. It also prepares me for the

RICHES Internship Blog Post #1

Hello, my name is Sabrina. I am a graduate student studying history in the public history track at the University of Central Florida. My personal research for my master’s thesis will look at crime, punishment, and race in Sanford, Florida. Last semester, I completed an internship working with the UCF Special Collections and University Archives. In that internship, I had worked on processing the  Carol Mundy Research Files,  as well as creating the finding aid for the collection. Due to COVID-19, I was unable to finish processing the collection before the library was closed because of the pandemic, so I was instructed to work from home, as everyone else was. The main task I was given was to assist in creating an Excel spread sheet and compile metadata that would assist me and others working on the STARS Historical Buildings history bios now and in the future. I chose to write my bio on the house of the University of Central Florida President, known as Burnett House. I though
